Chemically it’s docosanamide,a fully saturated 22-carbon fatty acid amide.
The differences between Behenamide and Erucamide:
Erucamide’s kinked chain (from the cis double bond) packs less efficiently in the polymer matrix, so it tends to bloom faster and give quicker initial slip performance.
Behenamide’s straight saturated chain packs more densely, so it migrates more slowly but can provide more durable, longer-lasting slip over time.

Applications of Behenamide:
1.Slip agent in plastics (main use)
Like erucamide, it’s used as a slip additive in polyethylene (PEI) and polypropylene (PP) films,but it’s often chosen specifically for:
>Longer-lasting slip performance in applications where a slower, sustained release of the additive is desirable (versus erucamide’s faster initial bloom).
>Applications requiring higher thermal stability during processing, since its higher melting point makes it more resistant to degradation at higher processing temperatures.
2.Anti-blocking agent
Similar to erucamide, it helps prevent film layers from sticking together in storage/handling.
3.Behenamide combined use with erucamide
In many commercial formulations,behenamide and erucamide are used together as blended slip packages,erucamide provides fast initial slip, while behenamide provides longer-term,sustained slip as the erucamide depletes from the surface over time.
4.Lubricant in polymer processing
Beyond films,it’s used as an internal/external lubricant in various polymer processing applications (extrusion, molding) due to its lubricity and thermal stability.
