Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSA) is an anionic surfactant with the molecular formula C₁₄H₂₇NaO₅S.
It’s the sodium salt of the sulfoacetic acid ester of lauryl alcohol.
SLSA Structure is Lauryl-O-CO-CH₂-SO₃Na,its key structural feature is the ester linkage between the fatty alcohol and the sulfoacetate group,as opposed to the direct sulfate ester found in SLS.

The difference between SLSA and SLS:
SLSA’s ester linkage is believed to make it less able to penetrate and disrupt skin lipids/proteins compared to SLS’s more aggressive direct sulfate structure,which is why SLSA has become a popular “gentler alternative” in the personal care industry,especially in products marketed toward sensitive skin.

1.Used for Bath and body products (main use)
SLSA is especially popular in the bath bubble/handmade cosmetics industry:
>Foaming bath bar and bath bubble— Valued for producing rich, stable foam even in hard water, and because it works well in powder form (unlike SLS, which is harder to formulate into stable solid products without clumping).
>Solid shampoo bars and shower gels — Used as a primary cleansing/foaming surfactant in solid personal care formats.
Facial cleansers and body washes — Chosen for gentler cleansing while still providing good lather.
2.As ingredient for sensitive skin products
Due to its lower irritation profile,it’s frequently used in products formulated for sensitive skin, baby care items,and gentle or natural cosmetic lines.
3.Powdered/solid cosmetic formulations generally
