Spezifikation:
Behentrimonium-Methosulfat(BTMS) 50 is not a single chemical compound but a conditioning emulsifier blend, typically composed of about 50% behentrimonium methosulfate combined with stearyl alcohol or cetyl alcohol.
It’s typically supplied as white to off-white waxy flake or granule.

Application of Behentrimonium Methosulfate:
1.Conditioning emulsifier for hair conditioners (main use):
BTMS can be used as the primary emulsifying and conditioning system in rinse-off and leave-in hair conditioners, deep conditioning treatments, and conditioning hair masks.
The cationic (positively charged) behentrimonium methosulfate component binds electrostatically to the negatively charged surface of hair (especially damaged or color-treated hair), providing detangling, softness, smoothness, and reduced static/frizz.
The cetearyl alcohol component simultaneously provides emulsification (stabilizing the oil and water phases together) and contributes thickness/body to the final product.
2.Cream and lotion conditioning emulsifier
Occasionally used in body/skin conditioning creams and lotions where a similar softening, smoothing sensory effect on skin is desired.
3.All-in-one conditioning base
Valued by formulators specifically because it combines two functions in one ingredient, emulsification (holding the formula together) and conditioning (delivering the performance benefit),simplifying formulation compared to using separate emulsifier and conditioning agent ingredients.

BTMS practical formulation notes:
>Ease of use: It’s popular in both commercial and small-batch/DIY cosmetic formulation because it’s a simple, reliable, melt and mix ingredient ,heat it with water and oils, cool while mixing, and it forms a stable, conditioning emulsion without requiring complex additional emulsifier systems.
>PH sensitivity: Since it’s a quaternary ammonium compound (already permanently cationic, unlike amidoamines such as behenamidopropyl dimethylamine which need protonation), it performs consistently across a broader pH range, though most conditioner formulations are still kept mildly acidic (pH about 3.5 An 5) to also support a smooth hair cuticle and overall product stability.
>Alternative concentration: You may also encounter a 80%min active version of this same base chemistry (higher behentrimonium methosulfate content, less cetearyl alcohol) used when formulators want stronger conditioning power relative to emulsification/thickening.
